Birmingham colleague completes London Marathon for Birmingham St. Mary’s hospice charity

Ed Kendall, Access Legal Solicitors paralegal in our Birmingham office completed the London Marathon 22 April 2018 in aid of the Birmingham office charity partner Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice charity.

Ed explained how got on completing the run.

‘It turned out to be the hottest marathon on record at a scorching 24.1 degrees (the 0.1 makes all the difference). After three miles it was pretty clear I was going to have to adjust my pace.

I managed to complete the first 14 miles in around 1hr 50 minutes – I had plenty of energy left and I was feeling good.

Unfortunately in my 14th mile my knee started to give way and was causing me a significant amount of pain. I was reduced to intermittent run/walks and eventually down to a power walk. My right leg was still strong so I decided to hobble the final 12 miles to the finish line.

There was a lot of temptation to give up at the 18 mile mark with 8 miles left to go on one good leg but I kept pushing forward.

My eventual time was 5:40 which under the circumstances I am very happy with! Thank you everyone for such fantastic support.’

So far Ed has raised £1,800 including a Shoosmiths donation of £300. Well done to Ed for his achievement and perseverance.
