Nottingham colleagues treat Improving Lives service users to afternoon tea

There’s nothing that brings people together better than a good afternoon tea!

As Kerry, Senior Practitioner at Improving Lives explains: ‘On 11 September 2018 Shoosmiths staff kindly treated fourteen Improving Lives service users (and three lucky staff members) to an afternoon out at Lakeside, in the University grounds.

We had a great afternoon tea where everyone relaxed, chatted and ate cake! Fortunately the weather was good and we all agreed a stroll round the lake was in order to work off the calories. Even those who struggle with mobility enjoyed the chance to get outside and one person even took some photos. He told his worker afterwards how pleased he was that he’d had the opportunity to go and he was really proud of himself that he’d had the confidence to talk to people, and his photos are great too!

It’s a huge thing for people with mental health issues to be with a group of people and to do something outside their comfort zone. We were really proud of all those who attended and a huge thank you to Shoosmiths staff for being so generous, friendly and welcoming, it was an afternoon that people will remember. ‘
