Shoosmiths CEO participates in United Nations Global Compact Business & Human Rights Summit

As part of the firm’s involvement in the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) Target Gender Equality programme, Shoosmiths CEO, Simon Boss joined a panel of speakers on 30 March 2021, to discuss gender equality in business, and what organisations like ours need to work on – based on learnings from the firm’s participation in the cross-sector ‘Target Gender Equality’ initiative in recent months.

Simon was one of the individual speakers in the ‘action dialogue’ session, which formed part of a two-day event shaping how businesses can address pressing human rights issues in 2021.

The Target Gender Equality initiative has included discussions on strategy, the benefits of target setting, evaluating progress, and communication; the resulting actions from these areas will feed into Shoosmiths’ wider diversity and inclusion strategy.

Shoosmiths has been a signatory of the UNGC since January 2016; the UNGC is the world’s largest global corporate sustainability initiative and enables us to take actions that advance societal goals. As a signatory, we have committed to and provide an annual ‘Communication on Progress’.

We are also involved in three UK Network working groups – Diversity and Inclusion, the Global Goals (Sustainable Development Goals), and Modern Slavery. We also participate in the Climate Action Group. All of these enable us to learn collectively with other members to evaluate and improve our own approaches.
