As part of our efforts to raise awareness about the scale and problems of slavery and trafficking we have been looking out for ways to highlight the problem amongst our colleagues.
On 30 July 2018 the charity Unseen launched an App to make reporting to its Modern Slavery Helpline even easier. The app provides a simple guide to recognising the signs of modern slavery and reporting concerns in confidence in order to help more victims of slavery and was developed for Unseen by the Helpline’s founding partner BT.
Shoosmiths colleagues are already able to report any concerns on a variety of issues including slavery and trafficking via our whistleblowing policy.
We have now introduced the app to all new work iPhones and iPads ordered from mid-August 2018 onwards and existing work phone users are also able to access the app. We have also provided details on how to locate and download the app to personal phones on an intranet page for staff explaining what the problem is, what Shoosmiths is doing and how staff can help.
The app can be found by searching ‘Unseen UK’ in app stores.
Nicola Ellen, Shoosmiths corporate responsibility consultant commented ‘this may seem a very small step to make publicising the existence of the App but it is still a step towards helping victims and therefore the right thing to do.
