Shoosmiths organises Autumn Raffle for Candlelighters

Shoosmiths’ Leeds office held an autumn raffle, in support of Candlelighters

We had some wonderful raffle prizes donated by clients and contacts, including hampers from Sourced Market, virtual cheese tasting vouchers, family Ponderosa Zoo tickets, Leeds Golf club vouchers, online nutrition, personal trainer and gym memberships raising a fantastic £545.

For families affected by childhood cancer, whose lives have already been turned upside down, COVID-19 is making life more difficult than ever. Candlelighters is continually updating and adapting its services and support to families touched by children’s cancer in Yorkshire. Throughout December 2020 it held walk and talk events for bereaved parents, virtual on/post treatment support groups meetings for parents, siblings, grandparents and patients.

The financial impact on individuals and businesses has been extensively covered in the media. Less seems to have been written on charities, who have been equally affected. Previous economic and financial market downturns have typically impacted on the level of grants from companies, charitable trusts and major donors. The fall in value of investments and property also affects the value, if not the number, of legacies. Most charities will be seeing a squeeze on income, and it is more important than ever to be able to support Candlelighters. Thank you to all our colleagues that pulled together to support this event.
