Shoosmiths supports Earth Hour 2021

Each year Shoosmiths supports Earth Hour. An initiative started by WWF and partners as a symbolic lights-out event in 2007 this has now become the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment and a catalyst for positive change.

This year Earth Hour took place on Saturday 27 March 2021 - 8.30pm to 9.30pm. Participants are invited to take one iconic action: to switch off the lights for one hour.

Shoosmiths offices will be taking part and we asked colleagues to support the campaign and also to think of other ways they could change every day behaviours.

We also made a commitment in December 2020 to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to set science-based emissions reduction targets across the entire value chain that are consistent with keeping global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

Some of our current activities as we move towards a net zero emissions future include:

  • Estates Management have undertaken a definition workshop which identified individual workstreams for building energy, building fit out specification, supply chain including landlords, travel, waste management and communications. Work is underway to define the full scope of each work stream, identify opportunities and establish specific actions/projects to be incorporated into 2021/2022 budgets
  • Launching a new sustainable travel policy statement
  • Measuring carbon emissions associated with our travel to work patterns
