Shoosmiths trainee talks to law students at a Careers in Law Day organised by the University of Northampton

Shoosmiths trainee Amy Leech took time out of her busy day to volunteer at a Careers in Law Day organised by the University of Northampton at its Park Campus on 21 June 2018.

The day involved speakers and activities to help law students them with their careers. Amy was invited to explain to the students about how she gained a training contract at Shoosmiths, mentoring and application tips. Amy spoke to about 30-40 students with lecturers also in the audience.

As Amy explained ‘My speech was interactive and focused on making the most out of your degree, using social media to enhance career aspects, making the most of external opportunities such as volunteering, pro-bono and involvement with local and national law societies. I was asked questions throughout the speech and I participated in networking with the students and staff over lunch. In the afternoon, I conducted three mock interviews with students. I asked a range of questions (of different complexities) and provided written and verbal feedback to each student. I allowed for time at the end of each interview for the student to ask me any questions they wished.’

A student commented afterwards ‘I would like to thank the Shoosmiths team for organising and attending the Careers in Law Day event at the University of Northampton on the 21st of June. Amy’s talk was deeply inspirational and informative, moreover, her dedication towards her career at Shoosmiths was highly contagious. I look forward to any future encounters.’
