Alex Haider is a solicitor in the clinical negligence department in Shoosmiths' Reading office.

Before going to university to study law, Alex worked in the NHS as a staff nurse on a vascular surgery ward and in an intensive care unit.

Alex manages cases arising from a wide variety of NHS and private medical care including delayed diagnosis of cancer, orthopaedic surgery, general surgery, ophthalmic treatments, GP errors and injuries to mothers and children occurring during labour.

Some examples of cases that Alex has successfully concluded are:

  • a settlement of over £300,000 arising from the negligent management of a wrist fracture resulting in the claimant having to abandon his career in the armed forces;
  • a six-figure settlement due to nerve damage during a biopsy, resulting in weakness in the claimant's dominant arm; and
  • a delay on the part of hospital doctors in the management of a young child who had swallowed a button battery, with the result that he sustained a full thickness burn to his oesophagus and required major surgery that could have been avoided.

Alex is a Senior Litigator member of APIL (Association of Personal Injury Lawyers).

Client quote

From the moment you took on my case I have been fully involved, informed and everything explained. You have understood my emotions and encouraged me along the way, basically done more than I ever could have imagined. Thank you.
