James is a real estate lawyer with broad experience of acting for developers, landlords and portfolio holders. He has a strong background in estate management work (including working closely with educational institutions and investors), managing corporate occupier portfolios and dealing with real estate corporate support work. His approach is typified by focusing on practical commercial advice to achieve the client’s objectives and building strong client relationships.
His recent project experience includes advising:
- A university on full site title review, including the grant of new leases, various lease renewals, wayleaves, transfers and licences.
- A national UK retailer on all matters connected with the management of their English real estate portfolio, including a mixture of new lease and freehold acquisitions, both new developments and existing buildings, lease renewals and regears.
- A national investor on the acquisition of a multi-let portfolio involving over 50 occupational tenants.
- On real estate restructuring including leases, deeds of easement and transfers relating to a multi-million pound business sale.
James has been a Senior Associate in Shoosmiths' real estate department since 2018, having joined the firm from Shakespeare Martineau LLP.
