Sumaiya joined Shoosmiths in October 2016 as a Senior Associate in our Wealth Protection department and heads up the team in the Milton Keynes office.

Sumaiya advises a variety of clients including high net worth individuals, business owners, and lottery winners, on all aspects of their estate planning.

She is an expert in the drafting of Wills, Trusts and Lasting Powers of Attorney and advises clients with assets abroad as well as in the UK.  She advises on detailed tax planning including the mitigation of inheritance tax and capital gains tax.

She also has a wealth of experience in the administration of estates including complex high value estates with assets in other jurisdictions.  She advises personal representatives on all aspects of the administration including taxation.

Sumaiya also acts as professional trustee and administers trusts, often involving vulnerable beneficiaries.

Sumaiya completed her undergraduate law degree, a masters degree in law, and her postgraduate diploma in law at the University of Hertfordshire and subsequently qualified as a solicitor in 2008.  Prior to joining Shoosmiths Sumaiya worked at a regional firm with offices in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire where she was a partner and head of the Wills, Trusts and Probate department.

Sumaiya is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and Solicitors For The Elderly.
