The real estate sector now has less than 12 months to prepare for the new biodiversity net gain (BNG) requirements coming into force in England.
The legislation is set to be enforced in November 2023 as part of the Environment Act 2021. It will require all new developments, bar a few exceptions, to deliver at least 10 per cent BNG – covering commercial and residential projects, while also impacting local authorities and developers.

Rachael and Matthew investigate the legal mechanisms that will be used to secure BNG and how it will be measured. They also share their insight on the steps developers should consider taking to meet the new requirements, particularly for schemes likely to be consented from November 2023.
