Manchester real estate colleagues volunteer at a Seashell Trust sports day

A Manchester office real estate team comprising Laura Chadwick, Lisa On-Iam, Zara Saunders, Lida Khanverdi, Helen Poulter and Laura-Louisa Betts used their CR day on 1 August 2017 to volunteer at a Seashell Trust charity sports day for children. Wheelchair rugby, basketball, cycling and mosaic making were all involved and enjoyed.

The Seashell Trust charity is dedicated to providing a creative, happy and secure environment for children and young adults with complex and severe learning difficulties which include little or no language abilities. With the expertise of its specialist teachers, care staff, onsite therapy team, assistive technologists, swimming teachers and sports coaches the students learn how to express themselves, engage with the world around them, become more independent and live safe, creative and fulfilling lives.

One of the charity’s aspirations for young people includes ensuring they have access to the same opportunities as others, including sport.

CADS (Children’s Able and Disabled Sport) is its award-winning sports programme where children, irrespective of their disability, can participate in a wide range of sports alongside their non-disabled friends. It’s the only programme of its kind in the country.

As well as enabling young disabled people to try out a variety of sports, it is often the only opportunity for disabled children to enjoy sport with their non-disabled siblings and friends.

Our team were activity co-ordinators on the day – helping to set up activities and supporting the young people in taking part. All the activities were led by a Sports Coach with the volunteers providing encouragement and help as needed throughout the day.
