Gareth is a solicitor in the Construction and Engineering team based in the Manchester office.

Gareth advises clients on both non-contentious matters and disputes. He has acted for developers, lenders, public sector bodies, contractors and other construction and engineering professionals.

Gareth has experience of drafting, negotiating and advising on standard forms of construction contract and the drafting of bespoke consultant appointments, warranties and novations. He also provides ongoing project advisory services to clients before, during and after the construction phase and is experienced in providing construction support for the sale, purchase and financing of developments.

Gareth has experience of acting for employers, contractors and sub-contractors in relation to disputes in relation to issues such as interim payments, final accounts, quality, performance and termination.

His recent project experience includes:

  • advising and negotiating on behalf of a local council in relation to the development of disused land into commercial and residential use in sections. Particular issues with site conditions and Sections of Work;
  • advising a university concerning all aspects of a final account dispute with its main contractor. Particular issues around defects/quality, extensions of time, loss and expense and other variation claims;
  • advising an employer in relation to its rights to terminate an NEC fixed term service contract and progressing matters towards termination; and
  • acting for an investor employer in TCC proceedings against its professional team for professional negligence in relation to its obligations under an agreement for lease.

Gareth joined Shoosmiths in 2018 having qualified at Weightmans in 2016.
