Peter heads the family team at the Leeds office of Shoosmiths.

He advises on all aspects of family law for married or cohabiting couples, whether in relation to financial issues or the arrangements for children. Most of Peter’s cases involve complex issues or substantial assets.

He has practiced family law for more than 25 years and spent most of his career working in his native Yorkshire. Though based in Leeds, Peter acts for clients from across the country and overseas. His expertise includes cases with an international element which may involve a choice of jurisdiction, overseas assets or a parent wishing to relocate with the children.

Peter has particular experience of cases involving inherited wealth and assets acquired pre-marriage as well as the valuation of businesses, properties and pensions. He is able to draw on the expertise of Shoosmiths' in house  accountancy support where there are “hidden” assets, complex business structures or issues surrounding 'non-dom' status. Shoosmiths is one of very few firms able to offer this service and the facility enables Peter to act quickly and discreetly.

Peter takes a strategic approach with the aim of achieving the best possible outcome for his clients. He is as adept at negotiating settlements as he is litigating to protect his clients' interests.

Peter has a great deal of experience of drafting Cohabitation Agreements as well as Pre and Post Nuptial Agreements. He works closely with our wealth protection team on asset protection issues. Peter is also known for his work in cases involving personality disorders.

Peter is happy to speak by phone - without charge or obligation - to discuss the issues in a particular case and explain how he might help.

He has been ranked for many years in the Legal 500 and Chambers directories.
